There are two long weekends stacked up with Easter and ANZAC Day hot on our heels. But first! What’s on this weekend and in the coming week? A few special things to note: take your bestie to the beer garden, buy skincare for good, and everyday athletes can sign up to compete. Plus our favourite markets up and down the South Coast, live music and concerts this weekend.

To start planning your Easter break, read this story, for six Easter art shows, read this story, and for the hottest dining tickets this Autumn, read this story.

We Love Markets

Start your weekend markets circuit on Saturday 12 April at the Sussex Inlet Community Market, 8.30am-12.30pm on Jacob Drive. Enjoy the warm Autumn sunshine at this outdoor market and support local makers, such as our very own contributor Ben from White Feather Designs with relish, chutney, jam and spices that will elevate your meals every day. Pair with fresh produce from local growers, and look out for unique finds.

Sunday 13 April offers three sensational markets, and the weather forecast is for a perfect Autumn day. Start at the Huskisson Markets in White Sands Park (note the change of venue), where there will be dozens of stalls with everything from local produce to crafts, clothing, pet accessories, great coffee and snacks.

Make your way to Kangaroo Valley for the monthly Farmers Markets, from 9am till 1pm on behind the Friendly Inn. Our pick is the Mexican breakfast whipped up by The Valley Table by Angie’s Food, including their famous homemade tamales, plus a changing menu of egg breakfast dishes. (In case you don’t know, Angie has a pop-up laksa stall on the last Saturday of the month behind The Hive at KV Coffee Co 9am – 1pm, using local produce. The next one is Saturday 26 April, for your diary.)

Ulladulla Wharf Markets, also on Sunday from 8am-1pm, are in a picturesque location alongside the fishing fleet of the South Coast. Look for fossils in the rock platform as you bask in the morning sun, indulge in a doughnut and coffee to top off a great start to the day.

Pups Day Out

It’s time for Besties at the Brewery, Jervis Bay Brewing Co’s unique dog festival this Saturday 12 April from 2pm-5pm. There will be special treats available for your furry friend, including dog beer and gelato, prizes for best dressed and best trick. Oh, and dogs are welcome!

Add more fresh veggies to your everyday routine with delicious guidance from north coast chef, Adam Guthrie, who is on tour with his special event, Plant Based Eating. Join him in Tomerong this Saturday from 6.30pm to learn new ways to prepare and devour veg, for $27pp including dinner. You will be rushing off to the farmers market in the morning, full of inspiration.

Lydian Singers Concerts

The Shoalhaven Lydian Singers will be performing a choral concert, “Songs & Sonnets”, a jazzy rendition of Shakespeare texts, Saturday 12 April, 5pm at Berry School of Arts and Sunday 13 April, 2pm at Nowra School of Arts, $30/$15 book online or pay at the door (kids under 12 are free). The Singers are a community choir with members aged from 18 to 80. They rehearse every Wednesday evening 6.30pm-9pm at St Andrew’s Church Hall in Nowra, and welcome new members. The choir performs three concerts a year. Visit their Facebook page or email shoalhavenlydians@gmail.com for more information.

Sunday Sessions Live Music

Cupitt’s Estate offers us local favourite, Horse Drawn Cadillac live from 12.30pm-3.30pm. If you haven’t seen these guys at one of their many gigs up and down the South Coast, don’t delay any longer. We love their unique blend of favourite blues standards and hidden gems from the music of New Orleans via Chicago. Head to Ulladulla this Sunday!

Jervis Bay Brewing Co features Mark Howard, on tour with his new single, Under Her Spell. Mark’s own blend of folk, rock, blues and alt-country with swampy grooves and fresh melodies will serenade your Sunday. He has toured in 45 countries and played at the Edinburgh Fringe and Adelaide Fringe festivals. See Mark from 3pm-6pm.

Bannisters Pavilion rooftop bar is hosting Jack Willis, 5pm-8pm. Jack is a young guitarist/singer playing contemporary acoustic songs. Support an up-and-coming musician who is currently doing a Bachelor of Music at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney.

Barn on the Ridge in Morton has a big brass sound, with a concert from the Hot Potato Band this Sunday, gates open 2pm and concert ends at 6pm, $49/$29+bf. Bring a picnic blanket, bring the kids (under 5s are free), dogs on a lead, and buy food and drinks at the venue (no BYO, all dietary needs catered for). This promises to be an energetic and interactive performance.

Make a Bilby

That’s right, you can make your own iconic Aussie Easter gift, a chocolate Bilby at Berry’s Treat Factory, in your choice of milk or dark choc filled with even more sweet treats of your choice. Choose from three sessions, Monday 14 April 10.30am-11.30am, Tuesday 15 April 10.30am-11.30am or 2.30pm-3.30pm, for $45 pp. Class sizes are small so get in quick.
