We are so spoilt for choice when it comes to every meal of the day, from dine-in winter warmers to take-home packs to prepare yourself. Here’s what’s new this week. Keep scrolling for some entertainment ideas from our editor, including great music at Sunday Sessions around the south coast.

Rotating salad bar

Bailey and the team at Husky Fresh Fish & Chips have introduced a fresh salad bar, and this week’s house-made creations are roasted pumpkin & creamy feta or Greek-style mixed salad.

The choices at this welcome new addition to Owen Street Huskisson keep expanding for both takeaway and fresh produce.

Sample some tender slow-cooked beef brisket and slaw on a roll, Ulladulla mirror dory fish taco, or take home a bbq pack to feed the family this weekend.

We love that Bailey has strong connections to seafood suppliers here on the south coast.

Sushi Lovers

Last Friday’s launch at the Sushi Martini Club was a hit, the place was buzzing and sushi creations were flying out of the kitchen.

Chef Egi has something extra special lined up for this weekend – Friday and Saturday nights are in for a Komyuniti Būsuto (community boost).

Imagine a cone of seaweed rolled around perfectly seasoned rice and filled with the freshest ingredients. That’s Temaki.

And that’s not all. Served alongside the temaki will be Negi Toro, a combination of rich tuna belly and green onions.

Paired with a Lemon Drop martini, this is how to do the cocktail hour – located at Jervis Bay Coffee Co along the walkway on Owen Street Huskisson.

Winter Supper

Albert N Miso continue their evening repasts this weekend on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 July, at their café in the Vincentia Village from 6pm. Three mouth-watering courses including a classic winter warmer, pea soup with house-made bread, a selection of mains – we love the sound of the slow-cooked rib with buttered corn and potato bake, and there are some seafood options too – plus dessert are on the menu for $70 ($5 corkage).

These dinners are selling out every weekend, so booking online is recommended.

If you prefer a daytime outing, pop in from 11-2pm for a great selection of brunch/lunch specials.

Buon Natale

Christmas is in full Italian swing next week at Peter & Eva Italian Restaurant, with carols, an Elf Challenge and a special Baileys hot chocolate. Don your favourite Christmas attire and get in the spirit, and be on your best behaviours because Santa is giving out lollies to all the good girls and boys. Bookings online are recommended, as this is one of the most popular dining spots along Owen Street Huskisson.

Family nights

If you’re looking for something fun, head down to Cupitt’s Estate in Ulladulla for Family Friday Nights, every Friday from 4.30pm until 6 September (closed 23 August for private function).

Catch up and connect with your family members over a meal deal of two pizzas, chips, salad, a jug of softdrink and two grown-up beverages (beer or wine).

The kids will enjoy some fun activities lined up for their entertainment.

Plus, from 4.30-5.30 it’s happy hour. Tag your family snaps with #cupittsfamilyfriday and make your other relatives a tiny bit jealous.

Legendary Rock Photographer Book Launch

Jervis Bay Brewing Co is excited to be hosting a special book launch for legendary rock & roll photographer Tony Mott, this Sunday 21 July at 1pm.

Tony’s work capturing iconic moments in rock over 30 years has featured in top magazines, newspapers, and album covers worldwide. He is recognised as Australia’s premier rock photographer and among the best globally. In the book and at the launch, Tony will share stories from his time touring with legends like the Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, INXS, David Bowie, and more.

Two great exhibitions

If you haven’t been down to the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum yet to see the current exhibitions by local artists, Akira Kamada and Dr Nigel Helyer, we highly recommend it. Akira’s sculptures and Nigel’s multimedia installations, including original music, are deeply connected to the human impact on nature.

Sunday Sessions

It’s Tall Shaun at the Jervis Bay Brewing Co this Sunday 21 July, from 3pm following the much-anticipated book launch from Tony Mott. We love the gravelly, bluesy tones of Shaun as we bid farewell to the weekend. He makes the transition a little smoother. Settle into the beer garden in the Huskisson industrial zone, for a sunny afternoon.

It’s contemporary blues from The Stayers this Sunday at 12.30pm at Cupitt’s Estate in Ulladulla, playing a mix of covers and original tunes. Book a table for lunch and kick back for a while.

Jazz fans, there are still tickets available for the James Morrison Quartet matinee show at the Milton Theatre, See the legendary trumpet player and his swinging jazz ensemble for just $63, book online.

If you’re in Vincentia and you like traditional Irish music, bring your instrument and head up to the Golf Club at 3.30pm for a casual “slow sessions” gathering. All welcome, beginners especially, to learn some new tunes and play along with a friendly group. Why not stay around for dinner at the Bamboo River Restaurant.

Plan Ahead

The Travelling Film Festival is almost here, at Husky Pictures 9-11 August. See the program and buy your tickets via the Sydney Film Festival website. We are really looking forward to the doco about the writer Charmian Clift on the Friday night – did you know she was a South Coast local? See you there!

Arts and crafts workshops are selling fast for this year’s Arts Muster, a wonderful weekend of arty events, including an artisans market, 24 & 25 August. Choose from a great selection of creative workshops, bring a friend and make a weekend of it.

Bonsai Workshops

Sign up for a 2-day workshop to learn the gentle art of bonsai, at Jervis Bay’s very own Bonsai on the Bay. These weekend events – from July till September – include lunch and an afternoon fire with drinks to wind down after potting, styling and caring for your new plant. Mason Keane is a bonsai master and is very generous with his knowledge and advice, not to mention the location in Woollamia is a visual feast. Optional extras are available for purchase. From $250 pp.
