Friday 29 November: Hospitality Editor Narrell Tabone has some fresh ideas for dining this week, and most of them are tacos!
Sushi tacos Take on a Twist
The playful concept of turning sushi into a taco makes them a fantastic conversation starter and a fun way to try something familiar with a new flavour twist; they are versatile, with endless filling combinations.
This weekend at Huskisson’s Sushi Martini Club, Blue Nami chef Egi will hand-make special sushi tacos until sold out! Enjoy crispy nori shells filled with creamy New Zealand king salmon, sweet local yellowfin tuna, sriracha mayo, guacamole, seaweed salad, and a drizzle of Nitsume (sweet soy sauce).
Nitsume, or eel sauce, is a sweet-savory Japanese favourite. Traditionally made by boiling eel bones, it’s perfect for sushi, grilled fish or chicken. The name means “boiling down”. Classic and delicious!
Chef Egi says sushi tacos are trending everywhere, especially because it’s a combination of two favourite cuisines, Japanese and Mexican, which are both packed with fresh, nutritious ingredients.
Egi thought, why would our customers miss out when I can deliver!
We would also like to mention that chef has fresh South Coast yellowfin tuna and kingfish he will be featuring on the sushi menu this weekend.
Head down to this popular local hot spot for fresh sushi and a plentiful selection of their namesake hand-shaken martinis or perhaps just stirred, a selection of fine wines, great beers and a generous list of signature cocktails ready for you to try.
Live Music Fridays
This Friday at the Sushi Martini Club acoustic duo, Three Hours South will be playing fun covers with a twist on their combo of guitar, harmonica, percussion and vocals. Hailing from Ulladulla (hence the name), Shaun and Kirsty joined forces after covid lockdowns and haven’t looked back!
Book a table or walks-ins are welcome.
Taco Tuesdays at The Local Jervis Bay
Talking about Tacos, don’t forget Taco Tuesdays at The Local Jervis Bay in Vincentia next week, 3 December. This regular special is a sell-out hit with the locals, thanks to the generous portions and delicious flavour combinations, such as:
- Slow cooked brisket, queso, slaw taco
- Fish, salsa verde, pineapple salsa taco
- Vegetarian Korean sticky tofu, cucumber salad, chilli mayo taco
They are also serving burrito bowls or nachos with your choice of brisket or beans, and leave room for their house made dulce de leche donuts.
(Editor’s Note: Dulce de leche, or caramelised milk, is a beloved treat from Latin America, France, Poland, and the Philippines, made by slowly simmering sugar and milk to develop a rich flavour, golden colour and creamy texture.)
The Local is open from 5pm-7pm with live music, check their socials to see who’s setting the mood with their chilled Taco Tuesday Tunes.
You can pre-order online if you like, but it’s not necessary as long as you arrive early enough to secure your spot.
