Narooma Oyster Festival is on this weekend, it’s about 2.5 hours drive south from Huskisson, to another stunning coastal village that celebrates the unique lifestyle and culture of the South Coast. Our very own PhycoHealth seaweed science experts will be there with a market stall promoting the future of sustainable ocean nutrition featuring the incredible health benefits of seaweed and oysters. They will be joined by Korean Chef Seong Kim of Mama Kim’s to highlight the deliciousness of the sea. If you fancy a drive, our tip is to head south. We wish everyone involved much success for the weekend. If you’re staying on the shores of Jervis Bay, here’s what else is happening around the region.

Citizen Science This Weekend

Act quickly if this is up your street – because it starts tomorrow! Sign up for free to a “Wreckspotters” course (usually $350 pp), and learn the principles and practice of maritime archaeology and heritage management this weekend.

Learn how to become a maritime archaeologist on a Wreckspotting course.

Held at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May, this is your chance to learn how to recognise and record maritime sites in our area. No diving required!

The course is a combination of seminars and in-the-field training. It is run in partnership with Heritage NSW, the Australasian Institute for Maritime Archaeology (AIMA) and the Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS) – UK based. This is an internationally recognised course which includes 1 year free membership to AIMA and NAS.

If you are interested in participating in the course, contact Toni, on 0421783759, ortoni.massey@qm.qld.gov.au

“Midwife Crisis” Comedy at Sussex Inlet

Sarah Stewart  is bringing her stand up comedy show “Midwife Crisis” to the Sussex Inlet RSL on Friday 9 May at 7.30pm. Sarah’s promo says the past 40 years have been a roller-coaster of birthing babies, corralling a hopeless husband, and wondering where her kids ‘parked’ themselves this time. Now, on the wrong side of 60, she’s traded delivery rooms for bucket lists and swapped forceps for funeral plans (organized in a Google Doc, naturally). Bound to be a laugh, and only $20.

Family, spirituality and Country are expressed by the artists through the vibrancy of red, the colour of the earth beneath their feet.

“Kangaroo Unbound” is a poetry-art exhibitionfeaturing more than 20 paintings, etchings and collagraphs from Garry’s Shead’s iconic D.H. Lawrence series, as well as poems written in response to those works by Wollongong writer and academic Luke Johnson. There will be a book launch – date to be confirmed but we will let you know.
