Fantastic Recycling Guide

Great news this week is an updated Recycling and Disposal Guide from Shoalhaven Council. This is an A-Z list of practically everything you could be throwing away, and how exactly to get rid of it. We are at the heart of a significant marine park here in Jervis Bay, so this information resource is perfect for householders and holiday-hosts.

Council says: “Please remember to put all your recyclables into your yellow lid bin, loosely. Never package them into a plastic bag and then place into your yellow lid bin.”

Beware of recycling symbols: If recycling symbols cause you confusion and sometimes frustration, you are not alone. An item may have a recycling symbol on it but it doesn’t necessarily mean it goes into the yellow bin.
The recycling symbol may mean the item is made from recycled materials. Sometimes the item can be recycled but not via the yellow bin and it needs to go through a specialised recycling process.
To get recycling right please refer to the recycling guides produced by Shoalhaven City Council. These guides have been specifically written for residents of the Shoalhaven, relating to the recycling options of our kerbside collections and Waste Depot services.

ORDER handy printed materials from Council, too.

While you’re there, try Jervis Bay Brewing Co’s new, experimental Hazy IPA, crafted to showcase the finest hops and hops-derived products from their mates at Freestyle Hops across the ditch. Kiwi hops are tough to beat when it comes to aroma, and this blend is packed with Rakau, delivering flavour like the perfect drop. For the uninitiated, Rakau, a style of hops was rediscovered and re-released in 2011 by the New Zealand hop breeding program, bursts with a vibrant, fruit-forward character that’s described by the breeder as “the whole orchard.” It’s also an efficient, clean bittering hop, adding a smooth balance to this bold brew.
