FRIDAY 30 MAY: As the Autumn turns into Winter, we’ve rounded up some of the best food, live music, art and culture you can enjoy this weekend plus get out your diary and plan ahead for the upcoming long weekend. Tradies’ Lunch News

First, here’s some foodie news from South Nowra. Terry and Michelle at Old Salt Distillery have let us know that “lamb & gravy roll” season has officially kicked off. These mouth-watering rolls stuffed with lamb cooked over the coals are $22, available on Thursdays and Fridays from midday till 2pm, $22. Old Salt will be open for dining tonight (Friday 30 May) and next Friday from midday till 6pm. Check their online calendar for new winter opening hours.

Milestones for Galah

Congratulations to Sam & Claire for four years at the Flamin Galah brew-pub in the Woollamia industrial zone. Join the celebrations this Saturday 31 May including raffle prizes and live music. In another milestone for the business, the Flamin Galah YouTube channel hit 5,000 subscribers, who tune in to informative and entertaining content about brewing everything from Belgian blonds to ginger beer.  

Art Everywhere

Jervis Bay Arts Trail is on this Saturday with over a dozen open studios and a pop-up gallery/shop at the Burton Street Shopping Village in Vincentia (in the former hippie shop), where you will find a selection of works from many of the participating artists, open 11am-2pm.

Also at the shopping village in the Hub (Shop 14), Coastal Creatives is a group exhibition by six local artists: Karen Cunningham, Barbara Haynes, Ingrid Kangas, Libby Ryder, Victoria Fernandez and Pat Campion.

Open from today, Friday 30 May till 9 June, the works are for sale as well as some greeting cards, books and gifts. Meet the Artists at 11.30am on Saturday 31 May.

Shoalhaven Plein Air Painters are installing a new exhibition at The Common South Coast in Culburra Beach, opening this Tursday 5 June at 6pm. Marvel at the immediacy and raw beauty of the landscape captured by these talented artists out in the field. Meet some of the artists at the opening event and find out about when and where this group meets to create new masterpieces.

Two for the Ocean Lovers

Firstly, see Ocean with David Attenborough this Sunday at Husky Pictures, screening at 3.10pm. Newly released on the iconic presenter’s 99th birthday, this feature-length documentary special is Attenborough exploring the planet’s undersea habitats, revealing the greatest age of ocean discovery and emphasizing the ocean’s vital importance while exposing its problems and highlighting opportunities for marine life recovery.

Secondly, put this one in your diary (and book a ticket now): World Oceans Day 2nd annual film festival at Husky Pictures, Saturday 7 June, 3pm-7pm, $20/$15.

There will be short films including the newly released White Rock, by the Great Southern Reef Foundation, about urchin barrens, a sausage sizzle via gold coin donation (veggie and gf available) and proceeds go to the Great Southern Reef Foundation.

Autumn Celebration of Food This Week

Bay Bites & Brews at Jervis Bay Brewing Co, Saturday 31 March, 7pm, $55

Consume the best of Jervis Bay—one bite and brew at a time (or wine if you so choose). Enjoy a 4-course feast crafted by some of the region’s top producers, paired with a beverage. The food will be lovingly prepared by: Kraken Sourdough, Jervis Bay Mussels, 5 Little Pigs and dessert by PhycoHealth.
