In the first weekend in November, Jervis Bay is teeming with athletes of all kinds who swarm to the beachside village of Huskisson for the annual Husky Tri and Husky Half marathon.

Run for it

There’s no heartbreak hill on this run – along the shores of Jervis Bay, the course for the Husky Running Festival is as scenic as it is flat. Serious runners can complete the 21km course on the Saturday 4 November, starting at White Sands Park.

Fun Runs of 10, 5 and 2km are also on the schedule, so there’s a race for everyone to enjoy the course.

If the running is best done by your four-legged ‘competitors’, check out the free-range options on the best dog beaches in Jervis Bay. Make sure you check the signs for off-leash hours and take your poop bags to keep our marine park pristine.

Tri-ce the fun

The Husky Running Festival is part of the bigger event, the Tri Husky. The cycle and swim legs of the triathlon take place across the weekend of 4-5 November. Alongside the “full-size” triathlon, there are shorter courses for kids, and for anyone who wants to give the tri a go. The swim laps head from the beaches at White Sands Park into the protected waters of Jervis Bay.

More swimrun events on the calendar

For anyone who doesn’t want to cycle, there’s the Husky swimrun next weekend, on Sunday 29 October as part of the Sand & Sea Festival. And for serious competitors who are probably already planning ahead, the Husky Ultra+ triathlon in February is the course of choice.

Run for Good

Participating in this half-marathon is Odhran’s Run Team for Kids Cancer Research.

In honour of their son, Odhran, who lost his battle with cancer at aged 14 in June 2022, his parents Ciara and Simon along with their families, friends and supporters, have been running to raise much-needed funds. The Husky Half is their last event for 2023, towards their goal of $100,000.

The dedicated team is now more than three-quarters of the way to this amount, and every dollar counts. You can sponsor a runner or make a donation to help Odhran’s family and friends help other families affected by childhood cancers.
