Mid-week Family Meals

Fancy a mid-week family outing and a night off from cooking?

Peter and Eva have you covered every Wednesday till 31 August with this dine-in special in the heart of Huskisson.

This is a fantastic family deal where each kid 12 and under eats a free main meal with each adult main (minimum $25, conditions apply).

Their pasta dishes are like a warm hug in winter, delicious and nourishing for the whole clan.

Visit their website for details of this offer and to book a table.

Two new specials and a New Chef

Sandbar’s first knockout night of laughs last week was a huge success with Wagga Wagga’s Dane Simpson and supporting act Samwise was a full house of entertainment accompanied with tapas-style entrees followed by veal osso buco and slow-cooked chicken with roast veg. Keep an eye on their socials for future comedy nights, coming soon…

Meantime, did you know there’s a new chef at the helm? Just before Easter, local head chef Jason Wilkinson, previously from Salty Joe’s, has jumped on board revamping Sandbar’s menu and special events.

Coinciding with the Beer and BBQ Festival this weekend at the Husky Pub, Sandbar is gearing up for three days of festive treats. Teaming up with ACT’s Bentspoke Brewing, they will be offering schooners at middie prices across all Bentspoke taps.

We caught up with Jason this week to chat about his well-honed skills and experience over the past 22 years and his plans in creating a reliable and enjoyable venue at Sandbar. He will be focusing on training staff to shape this industry’s future and hosting a variety of events for both locals and tourists to enjoy.

Jason is big on sourcing from and supporting local producers, and we were thrilled to learn that all his sauces are made in-house (and most of the menu is gluten free too, talk to staff about any other needs, they are happy to accommodate). Jason’s all about maintaining good natural, healthy flavours.

For this weekend, Jason has created a couple of great meal specials with a matched beer.

Spiced lamb backstrap w/ charred cauli, honey carrots, labne and za’atar served with Benstpokes award winning crankshaft IPA.

Pan fried snapper w/ celeriac puree, roast fennel, brown butter and watercress served with Bentspokes Barely Griffin Pale Ale.

Available from 3pm Friday 21  until 9pm Sunday 23 June.

Beer and BBQ Family Extravaganza

It’s on this Saturday and there’s still tickets available for Husky’s popular annual Beer & BBQ Festival, at the Huskisson Hotel.

Selected brewers from around NSW will be serving their samples directly for you to try. There will be smokers cooking up a feast and we dare you to sign up for the “Husky Hot Wing Challenge”. There will be face painting and a bouncy castle for the kids. Entertainment will include wood chopping, a mechanical bull and a beer hall, as well as live music, so much to do all in one place. Bring a picnic blanket, bring your pooch and enjoy a great afternoon, from midday till 8pm.

Brewers Catchup

Ahead of the Beer & BBQ extravaganza, Jervis Bay Brewing Co is hosting a special evening for all the brewers who will be in town for the festival, Friday 21 June from 5pm at their brew-pub in the Huskisson industrial area.

The event will be a chance for brewers to “nerd out” (their words) on all things beer and brewing, while enjoying games and live music from All the Fuss band. Of course the 5 Pigs food truck is always there as the perfect accompaniment to the beer specials.

Vincentia dining

Exciting news from Albert N Miso for July. Before their temporary closure in mid-August for a new fit-out new branding, these guys will be open for dinner Fridays and Saturdays through July in the Vincentia shopping village on Burton Street. Check their socials for details and specials, which might include some winter-themed events, and maybe a farewell Alberts party is on the cards?

It’s On Fire at Bud’s

Old Salt is bringing their wood-fire grills to Bud’s Tavern in the heart of Huskisson and throughout winter they will be collaborating with the Bud’s team for a monthly kitchen takeover. The next one is Tuesday 9 July, which is on sale now $80pp and be warned, they sell out quickly.

These guys are passionate about cooking over fire. They’ll be creating menus inspired by different cuisines from around the world with a special focus on wood fire dishes. We all love a little umami char on our food. Jervis Bay Weekend attended the last two events, both of which offered fantastic value for money, exceptional menus and a lively fun atmosphere (18+ only). Highly recommended.
