Friday 3 January: Welcome to 2025! The summer holiday makers are certainly adding a buzz to the seaside villages of Jervis Bay. Soak up some of this vibe for yourself at one of these ‘happenings’. Whether you love markets, live music, great food, or interesting art, we have something for everyone this week.
Tonight
The Howlers are serving up blues rock crowd favourites at the Sushi Martini Club from 6pm. Join Larry and the band for an evening of delicious sushi, fresh cocktails and great music.
Tomorrow Night
Head down to the Sussex Inlet Surf Club for Music@TheBeach, from 5pm. The Narrators, a six-piece band will take you on a musical journey through the decades with covers from the 60s to the 80s while The Grazing Galz kiosk will provide sustenance. Bring a picnic rug and the whole family for a great evening under the stars.
Animation Sensations
Husky Pictures has a fantastic schedule of animated films for the whole family, perfect for cooling off out of the sun this summer. Paddington in Peru, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Moana 2 and Mufasa The Lion King are all on the list, plus special singalong screenings of Wicked – the next one is this Sunday 5 January at 2.30pm so warm up those vocal chords. Thursday Sunset Sessions
Sunset sessions on Thursdays this month at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum help raise funds for this local gem, which is a treasure trove of local history on and off the waters. This Thursday 9 January will feature music from Twin Circus (3-5 pm) and Jackee B Trio (5-7pm). El Cantina will be serving a delicious Tex-Mex inspired meals for dinner onsite.
Bands on the Bay
At Vincentia Sailing Club on Barfleur Beach, this popular popup, Bands on the Bay hosted by Jervis Bay Brewing Co is on till this Sunday 5 January. Today, the reggae sounds of the George Bishop Band will pair perfectly with Nani’s Food Truck, tomorrow (Saturday 4 January) it’s sensational local band All The Fuss and Sunday is the gravelly voice of Tall Shaun, with the Wandering Wood Fired Oven serving up pizza all weekend.
Husky Carnival fireworks
This family favourite in the sports fields, the Husky Carnival is putting on a fireworks night at 9pm tomorrow, Saturday 4 January. Pre-purchase your tickets online, and make a night of it! On every day till 26 January.
Blessing of the Waters
The Greek Orthodox Church of Jervis Bay will be performing a special ceremony, Epiphany – Blessings of the Waters at Barfleur Beach (next to the Vincentia Sailing Club) on Monday 6 January at midday, followed by bbq souvlaki in Plantation Point Reserve.

Art Classes
Make 2025 the year of creativity and start with one of these classes by talented local artists. First up is a pen and watercolour class in the tranquil gardens of Jervis Bay artist Jenny McIntosh, on Saturday 11 January from 10am ($200/$180). Bring a favourite photo to turn into a work of art (and your lunch).
Try transforming bush fibres into a woven object with fibre artist Lissa de Sailes, on Thursday evening 16 January from 6pm at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery ($95 includes materials). Lissa will show you how to identify, harvest and process local natural plant fibres and make a small woven place mat from cumbungi (bullrush).
These classes are suitable for all skill levels.
Art Trails
The Currarong Art Trail is on this Saturday from 10am-2pm, with an easy walkable route around the seaside village. Check their website for the artists who will open their studios and give you a glimpse into their art practice, inspiration and pieces for sale. There will be paintings and drawings, ceramics, jewellery and photography.
If you love art trails, here’s a new one for the diary: The Jervis Bay Arts Trail is now on the last Saturday of the month from 10am-3pm and the next one is on Saturday 25 January. Check their website for the artists participating on the day and their addresses – this is not a “walkable” trail, the studios are located in Vincentia, Woollamia and St Georges Basin.
Cultural Walk
There’s no better start to 2025 than with an Aboriginal cultural experience in the heart of Jervis Bay. Join Gadhungal Marring on the Babagulli Murru (Grandfather’s Track) Tour, an unforgettable “walk and talk on Country” at the Huskisson Maritime Museum. This family-led experience celebrates Dharrawal culture, storytelling, and connection to the land, offering a unique perspective on the stunning Jervis Bay area. Tours start on Saturday 11 January for four weekends. Tickets are available online (from $40).
