Live Like a Local: Jervis Bay’s Best Kept Summer Secrets

FRIDAY 2 JANUARY: Look beyond the spectacular landscape to discover a world of vibrant community events. Join the locals for “Bands on the Bay,” explore the Mariw Minaral exhibition, or grab a quacky ticket for the annual Duck Derby. This is the Jervis Bay you know and love, plus a few new surprises, to kick off 2026 with a bang.

Things To Do Right Now

The Husky Carnival is on nightly in the sports fields, with ticket prices from $40 available online or at the box office on-site. There are around 18 rides plus food and entertainment for the whole family, every night from 6pm-10pm, till 26 January.

The Husky Ferry runs daily during the summer holidays, 9am to 9pm between the Huskisson wharf (leaving on the quarter hour) and up the Currambene Creek to Myola, only $15/$5 return for the 10-minute voyage.

Mariw Minaral Exhibition is a new exhibition at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum presents the artist’s presentation of what it means to be a sea person. Works including intricate linocut prints as well as sculptural works, contemporary masks and film by Torres Strait Islands artist Alick Tipoti. The museum is open daily, 10am-4pm and entry is $14/$12.50. Until 31 May.

Summertime is an exhibition by the Shoalhaven plein air painters and friends, Summertime, now on at The Common South Coast in Culburra. From boats and birds to bikini bottoms, these works are all for sale and best enjoyed with a beverage in hand from the bar at The Common, open Thursday to Sunday.

A pop-up gallery by local artists is on at The Hub, shop 14 Vincentia Village, featuring paintings, prints, photography, children’s books and more. On till 4 January and open daily.

Bands on the Bay coastal pop-up, the locals’ favourite joint venture between Jervis Bay Brewing Co and the Vincentia Sailing Club is on again at Plantation Point. Don’t forget the deal with the reusable cups – you will get your deposit back when you return your cup! From midday, daily till 4 January.

Neon Bushland starts tomorrow at the Bundanon Art Museum in Illaroo, where artist Rosie Deacon has created a tactile, brightly coloured “garden” made from a variety of craft materials and waste. It’s free to see, from Wednesday to Sunday 10am-4pm and fun for the whole family – you can even add your own botanical creation, till 18 January.

What’s ON This Weekend and This Week

Friday 2 January, Restorative Yoga in Woollamia: Experience deep rest and renewal today at 4pm with a restorative yoga session at The Nest Wellness Studio at Bay and Bush, Woollamia, a few spots are still available, $29. Book in and see the full program on offer at their website.

Saturday 3 January, Yoga at Worrowing: In need of a new year’s refresh? Start with an early morning yoga class with Mary Baseler, in the new venue, Melaleuca at Worrowing. Classes start at $25 for a casual, and the program can be found on their website.

Saturday 3 January, Currarong Art Trail: The seaside town of Currarong on the northern side of Jervis Bay boasts a walkable Art Trail, on the first Saturday each month, 10am-3pm. Discover a wealth of local talent and walk off your seasonal indulgences at the same time. Buy direct from the artist and support independent makers.

Saturday 3 January, Milton Markets: At 9.30am, hit the Milton Village Showground Markets for a new year’s browse around a makers & growers market with live music, street food and creative artisans, till 2.30pm.

Saturday 3 January, Twilight Markets: The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum is enlivening evenings this month with a great series of events in the gardens around the pond, starting with the first Twilight Markets of the year this weekend. There will be a bar, live music, great food trucks and of course, a range of market stalls such as local providores, hand crafted items, plants, flowers, clothing and more, from 3pm-7pm.

Sunday 4 January, Culburra Markets: From 8am, the all-local Culburra Beach Market is on at Fred Evans Lane, including hand made and home grown items plus a few food trucks to stave off the hangries, till 1pm.

Sunday 4 January, Berry Markets: The Berry Showgrounds come alive with the Berry Markets from 8am featuring a wide range of stalls offering everything from fresh produce to fashion to flea-market finds. On till 2pm.

Sunday 4 January, Sound Bathing Afternoon: A great way to reset your nervous system and start the new year on the right vibrating frequency is a Sound Bath, by expert practitioner Jen Freeman at The Nest Wellness Studio at Bay and Bush, Woollamia, $29. Sunday 4 January, Daniel Champagne Plays Tomerong: The community hall in Tomerong offers another fantastic Aussie performer, Daniel Champagne, singer/songwriter, one-man instrumentalist of a unique fusion of folk, blues, roots and pop. This family-friendly concert starts at 7pm (doors open 6.30pm) and tickets are $40/$20 to see this internationally-acclaimed musician.

Sunday 4 January, Sunday Sessions Live Music: We love to wind down on a Sunday with some of our region’s most talented indie musos, and this Sunday it’s going to be a very difficult choice with so many great options. Here’s a few recommendations to get you started.

Michael Bond will strum and sing some of the greatest hits of the past 50 years at Mountain Ridge Wines in Coolangatta, from 11.30am.

The Stayers will set the bluesy groove at Cupitt’s Estate in Ulladulla from 12.30pm.

Ollivia Coggan, born to be a country singer, will make you feel things at Flamin Galah in the Woollamia industrial zone from 3pm

Chocolate Dogs at Jervis Bay Brewing Co in the Woollamia industrial zone, bringing a rockabilly/folk/bluegrass vibe from 4pm.

Alex Clark at Bannisters Pavilion rooftop bar in Mollymook, perfect for sunset cocktails at 5pm.

Thursday 8 January, Farmers Markets: Berry’s weekly farmers markets kick off again with a great selection of local produce. Start your weekly shop habits off well and visit the Berry Farmers Markets from 2pm, enter via Queen Street.

Thursday 8 January, Summer Sessions @ Museum: Back by popular demand! The place to be on Thursdays in January is around the pond at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum, where our favourite local musicians will set the sunset vibe at the Summer Sessions from 3pm-7pm. This Thursday, grab a drink from the Museum bar and an early dinner from the food trucks, then settle in for the unmistakable jazz vocals of Kim Hair, followed by the Jackee B Trio at 5pm. El Cantina will be serving a delicious Tex-Mex inspired meals for dinner onsite and sweet Coastal Swirls for dessert.

Plan Ahead – a few noteworthy dates for your diary

Sunday 18 January, Wood Fired Pizza, Farm Style: Martin’s Ridge Farm at Conjola is famous for its free-range herds and boutique charcuterie, and it’s summertime wood fired pizza nights – but book in quickly as these special events sell out fast, $65.

Tuesday 20 January, Art Café in Sussex: Release your inner creative with guidance from artist Jenny McIntosh at Art Café Sussex Inlet. Held at Ellmoos Hall on Jacobs Drive, this two-hour art experience from 10am includes morning tea, while you create an original artwork in pen and watercolour wash, $50 (byo materials) or $55.

Monday 26 January, Duck Derby: Get ready for a quacky Australia Day at Moona Moona Creek with the annual Marine Rescue Jervis Bay Duck Derby fundraiser from 9am. Tickets are now on sale for race day, from $5, which could win you a fistful of dollars if your duck floats in first at Moona Moona Creek. Stay tuned for more information about the day, including market stalls, food trucks and entertainment.

Friday 20 March, Bach in the Museum: Music in the Regions is touring another internationally acclaimed classical performance, by Bach Akademie Australia who bring the musical story of J.S. Bach to life. Tickets are $40 for this performance at the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum, starting at 6.30pm. There will also be performances in Berry and Ulladulla on this tour.
