You could be forgiven for thinking that Spring has sprung with this delightful weather and a calendar full of incredible things to do here in Jervis Bay this month.

Let’s start with National Science Week – read our story about some highlights, starting this Sunday 11 August, and book some great free and reasonably-priced activities.

Film Buff Heaven

The Travelling Film Festival hits Huskisson this weekend at Husky Pictures, starting this Friday night 9 August and offering a fantastic program of features and shorts across the weekend. Tickets are still available, including the great value flexi-pass.

Film buffs can enjoy a free movie this coming Wednesday 14 August at the Ulladulla branch of Shoalhaven Libraries, from 2pm. The library shows a selection of classic and new release films on their big screen each month. Register online to secure your seat.

Nature Talks

Bird lovers, the Nowra branch of our library has an evening event for you. Learn about some of our local endangered species from a member of BirdLife Shoalhaven. Yolanda Cozijn is a dedicated bird observer and talented photographer, who will share her knowledge about feathered friends such as gang gang and black glossy cockatoos, and powerful owl. Register for this free talk on Monday 12 August from 5.30pm.

Gang gang cockatoos and other birds are the topic of a nature talk by Yolande Cozijn at the Nowra library.
New Art Shows

Art lovers will be excited to know that a new set of exhibitions is almost ready at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery, opening this Saturday with an artists’ talk at 10.30am followed by an official opening at midday, both free events. The first new installation is Urritjara by filmmaker and visual artist Tim Georgeson. Filmed across Lake Bumbunga, a salt lake located in South Australia, Urritjara, starring actor and performance artist Derik Lynch, is a gripping portrait of the synergy between sound, earth and movement.

The second is The Crab’s Dream by contemporary artist Wade Marynowsky. Wade uses specific beach and bush locations of the Shoalhaven as sites for artistic investigation in his multi-disciplinary practice that includes sculpture, video, sound, robotics and interactive works.
