Sunday 26 April sees the first Huskisson Artisans Market of 2026. Come and enjoy the playful pleasure of making something simple, by hand, that you can take away. Delight in exploring what the 50 or so clever makers, artists and providores featured in the market have on offer—all original, all made with care, all a source of delight and joy.

Try your hand at making a colourful origami boat or two with artist, Christine Wiltshier.

Messing About With Boats

Join local artist, Christine Wiltshier, to try your hand at making a colourful origami boat or two. The classic paper boat is simple enough for even small, young hands so adults and children can share the joy of making things together.

This kind of participatory art-making is an important aspect of Christine’s art practice, “not simply because it is fun but because of the social aspect and how interesting the conversations are that come about.”

Enjoy making alongside a professional artist, and treat your brain to a beautiful boost from the beneficial effects of engaging in arts experiences—an area of research that now has its own identified field: neuro-aesthetics.

You’ll also be able to see Christine’s artworks in the Artfulmind Pop-up Gallery/Shop that presents the work of more than a dozen of the South Coast’s finest makers and artists—now a key feature of Huskisson Artisans Market.

Find Christine and her Messing About With Boats activity station alongside stalls selling wonderful children’s books by local authors and illustrators, hand knitted toys, and scrap booking paraphernalia to fire the creative imagination.

Ever Evolving Mix of Makers

Interest in Arts Muster’s Artisans Market has grown so much that applications now exceed the number of stalls that can be accommodated in our much loved, much used Huskisson Community Centre. While this inevitably leads to disappointment for some applicants it gives other artisans opportunities to show and sell their work. It also affords the local artisans who voluntarily organise the market the opportunity to curate new mixes of stall holders, to try different layouts suited to the quirks of the venue, and create a fresh market experience for visitors.

At the April market, some stall holders you’ll meet have been regulars since Samantha Tannous started Huskisson Artisans Market in 2023, as part of Arts Muster’s annual program of events and workshops.

Other stall holders are presenting their wares for the first time, such as Joanna Kopocinska, who works wonders with Australian Merino wool, felting, plant dyes and found objects to make unique garments, accessories and functional objects.

Also among the makers new to Huskisson Artisans Market you’ll find Karin Hamer, who constructs beautiful, functional baskets and boxes from recycled Japanese papers, and Natalie Velthuyzen, who is adding to the band of skilled ceramicists booked to show and sell at the market.

Beautiful Bargains

Of course, Arts Muster hopes you will browse and buy. Sales are much appreciated. So is interest in the artisans’ creative practice.

We encourage you to show your support by taking time to chat to stall holders. There is always something fascinating to discover about the makers’ methods and techniques, and you may be amazed at the amount of time involved in creating their unique items.

A chat with the artisans will reveal that whatever the price of the item, it is an absolute bargain because the prices do not come anywhere close to reflecting the true cost of the labour, materials and processes—such as the kiln firings needed for ceramics— involved in hand making. Each and every purchase comes with a huge amount of passion and generosity of spirit thrown in.
