Celebrate Autumn in Jervis Bay with These Interesting Things to Do

FRIDAY 21 MARCH: We have selected a large handful of special events, exhibitions, markets, live music and a few workshops to help you enjoy these cooling autumnal days in Jervis Bay and around the South Coast

Harvest Season

Head to Sassafras Nuts, open from this Saturday 22 March for their annual harvest season, which lasts about six weeks. It’s a great day out for the whole family, pack a picnic, gather some nuts, enjoy the fresh autumn air. Tasmania Wilderness Film

Immerse yourself in Australia’s largest temperate rainforest in the northwest of Lutruwita / Tasmania, known as Takayna / Tarkine, with the movie Takayna — the Heart of Lutruwita’. This inspiring and hopeful film about the battle to defend Takayna from mining and logging features Tasmanian Aboriginal community members, scientists and musicians, alongside stunning scenery. This Sunday 23 March1.30pm  at Ulladulla Civic Centre, tickets are $15+bf, brought to you by the Bob Brown Foundation.

Sunday Sessions 23 March

Flamin Galah, award-winning performer Bianca Joulianou is playing from 3pm plus it’s happy hour from 3-4pm, the perfect time to enjoy one of Sam’s expertly brewed creations, such as the Earl Grey Lemon Sour.

Jervis Bay Brewing Co, local favourite Ness Quinn is playing in the beer garden from 4pm, to ease you through a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Bannisters Pavilion Rooftop Bar blends sunsets and sounds from 5pm, this Sunday with Gaby Bonello.

Markets This Weekend

Nowra Showground Indoor Markets is on this Saturday 22 March, 8am-1.30pm, with plenty of undercover stalls, perfect for a drizzly day, enter via Junction and West Streets.

Berry Village Markets is on Sunday 23 March, 10am-3pm at the Berry Bowlo, featuring over 100 stalls including fresh produce and flowers, boutique beverages and arts and crafts, and so much more.

Need an Art Fix?

Bundanon Art Museum offers free entry for Shoalhaven residents and holders of a pension card on the last Wednesday of the month, including this coming Wednesday 26 March, open from 10am-5pm (usually $18/$12). Wonder at the new exhibitions such as the staggering cardboard sculpture by the Aquilizans, make an element of your own to add, learn about the fascinating hidden world of mycelium and marvel at the large-scale collaborative paintings of the Martu communities of central Western Australia.

Stop by the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery while you’re out for local Jervis Bay artist Vanessa Barbay’s new exhibition, Death’s Witness, commemorating the life of animal kin through a unique shroud process. Free entry, on till 10 May.

Forest Sound Journey

Healing Sounds Jervis Bay will take you on a relaxing rainforest journey sound bath, on Friday 28 March starting at 7pm, $30 in the Huskisson Community Centre Hub Room. Sound practitioner Jen Freeman creates a soundscape with bamboo, cascading seed pods, rain sticks and crystal singing bowls, plus nature sounds using bird caller instruments created by artist Dan Moi from Germany. Followed by complimentary herbal tea. Book online.

Plan Ahead

How the Sausage is Made

If you have always wanted to create your own bbq classic, the sausage, then Martins Ridge sausage making class is for you. The next class on 5 April is selling fast so we recommend booking now. For $250 you will learn directly from the farmer/chef using their pasture-raised heritage breed pork. Sample your creations on the day plus plenty to take home.

Funny Bones

The dry wit of Peter Berner, alongside Chris Ryan And Stu MacPherson will provide a hilarious night of entertainment at the Jervis Bay Brewing Co on Saturday 29 March, starting at 7pm. The tickets are very limited due to seating, and are $25+bf online. Get in quick and make a night of it with great beverages and dinner by the 5 Little Pigs food truck.

Comedian and artist, Anh Do presents his smash hit stage show, The Happiest Refugee, based on his best-selling book of the same name, at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 26 March from 7.30pm. Tickets are $65+ and you can add a dining package to make a night of it.
