Friday 1 November: Our calendars are filling up with festivities as we start the countdown to the summer holidays. This weekend is the Husky Running Festival, so keep your eye out for runners of all ages and abilities enjoying the scenic coastal routes.
Bagan Bariwariganyan: Echoes of Country
It’s the opening weekend at Bundanon Art Museum for this new exhibition from three First Nations artists is packed with performance, workshops and talks for everyone to immerse themselves into the stories and artworks by renowned Gweagal/Wandiwandian storyteller and artist Aunty Julie Freeman, leading Walbunja/Ngarigo artist Aunty Cheryl Davison, and Wiradyuri/Kamilaroi artist Jonathan Jones.
The exhibition upholds and maintains Aboriginal values and kinships, featuring an immersive gunyah (home) installation including drawings by the significant Yuin artist Mickey of Ulladulla, a solo exhibition of paintings by Aunty Julie sharing grandmother stories of local plants, animals and weather patterns, and a new installation by Aunty Cheryl Davison, representing the importance of Burrawang seeds, a key traditional food source.

Third Date Announced! Gina Chick
After the first two dates sold out in record time, Boobook on Owen has added a third date to hear Gina Chick of Alone fame talk about her new memoir, We Are the Stars. For $15, hear some tales from this extraordinary new book while enjoying a glass of wine and a grazing plate at Jervis Bay Coffee Co, right next door to Boobook.
More excellent author talks on the calendar for this month include Hailey Scrivenor on 11 November talking about her new novel, Girl Falling, and Alison Edwards on 20 November, talking about her first novel, Two Daughters.

Husky Running Festival
This weekend, there will be hundreds of runners of all ages and abilities enjoying the challenge of a course along the picturesque shores of Jervis Bay, for the annual Husky Running Festival. Full marathon and fun runs and twilight runs still have a few places available, if you have a last-minute hankering to participate. The Husky Half and popular fun run routes sold out.
Markets Galore
Saturday afternoon 2 November is the Twilight Markets at Jervis Bay Maritime Museum, from 3-5pm. Give yourself plenty of time to make your way over there, as roads and routes may still be feeling the effects of the marathon. Enjoy browsing among the stalls around the pond, take a wander along the mangrove boardwalk, and pick up something for dinner from one of the food stalls.
Saturday morning 2 November is the popular Milton Village Showgrounds Markets, from 9.30-2.30pm. Expect around 100 stalls of fresh food and produce, crafts, clothing and more.
Local Artists on Show
The Shoalhaven Art Society 57th Open Art Exhibition is on now till 16 November at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery in Nowra. This is your once-a-year time to see the incredible skill and diversity of the artists in the Shoalhaven who submit their best works – most of them also for sale. Marvel at the talent of the junior artists who are also on display. Support the Society with a donation or a raffle ticket to win an original artwork.
Categories include still life, landscape, portrait and abstract/contemporary.
The Howlers unplugged
Sushi Martini Club aka Jervis Bay Coffee Co in Huskisson is turning up the classic rock with The Howlers live from 5.30pm Friday 1 November.
More live music in Sunday Sessions
Fresh from a UK trip, Vic and Linds are back at the Jervis Bay Brewing Co beer garden for Sunday Sessions this weekend from 3pm. These guys are always on form with their soulful folk, lots of original tunes and Lindsay occasionally shredding up the fiddle.
Over at the Flamin’ Galah, Liam Maihi will soothe your Sunday from 3pm, with his distinctive vocals and guitar. Speaking of the Galah, check out this new video from head brewer Sam showing their newest beer, Earl Grey Lemon Sour, which is almost ready to drink. Inspired by a beer found during their trip to Seoul.
Charity car show
This Sunday at Husky Sports, 7 Nov 10-3pm is a Classic Car Show, $20 for car entrants, gold coin donation to come in and see the gleaming motors on display.
Taco Tuesdays are a Hit!
The Local cafe at Vincentia Shopping Village (formerly Albert N Miso) is on a roll with their Taco Tuesdays. Pre-orders are available, check their socials for new flavour combinations and how to order.
Congratulations to Few & Far
The South Coast-born interiors retailer Few & Far is poised to open its first Sydney flagship store in the Sydney suburb of Rosebery. Congratulations to Tara and Danny on this exciting new venture. Locals can browse beautiful furniture and homewares, original art and design at the store’s Huskisson showroom in the industrial zone, or check online for other locations.

Artisans Callout for markets: There are a few tables left for the 8 December Arts Muster Artisans Market in Huskisson, so if you make anything from jewellery to textiles, paintings to ceramics and you want to be involved, fill out the application form online.
Vincentia Community! Community Connect on Sunday 24 November is a fantastic event organised by Vincentia Matters to celebrate the diversity of people, talent and activity that makes this village special. Join in the festivities including live music, art shows, market stalls, plenty of food and drinks plus kids activities including face painting and LEGO, from 11-4pm at the Burton Street village (ie Coles shopping centre).
New date for Future AGM. The local activism group, Our Future Shoalhaven is holding its AGM dinner on Wednesday 20 November in the Jervis Bay Club meeting room from 6.30pm. The organisers promise more interesting conversation than “meeting” and you can find out more about the group on their website.
Spirits of Jervis Bay Festival. All things distilled will be celebrated at the Spirits of Jervis Bay Festival on Saturday 23 November from midday at White Sands Park adjacent to Husky Pub. Cocktails, great food and live music will keep you entertained all evening. Tickets are $20 online.
Nature & Nurture Concert. The MUSO – Milton Ulladulla String Orchestra – will perform ‘Nature and Nurture, music for the soul’ at the Ulladulla Civic Centre from 3pm on Sunday 1 December. Tickets are “by donation”, at the door or reserve a seat online and nominate how much you wish to pay. The concert features exciting works by Grainger, Newbold and Corelli among others.
