Art, Community and Sound Bathing in Jervis Bay This Week

Friday 11 October: The Yila Healing Trail festival starts this Friday 11 October with a corroboree at Paringa Park Nowra, from 4pm. This is one of the many free events on the program, which has more than 80 free and paid events on across the region for the 10 days of the festival. Browse the online program and you will find many wonderful gems. Congratulations to the organisers for achieving this inaugural event.

There’s so much more to enjoy in Jervis Bay and the south coast this week and a few ideas for your calendar to plan ahead, so scroll to the end for some future events.

Dance Tribe South Coast

Try Conscious Dance & Sound Medicine at Tomerong Hall, $25 on Thursday 17 October at 7pm. Move your body any way you feel to a soundtrack inspired by the elements, then lie down to be bathed in the vibrations from a variety of instruments including crystal singing bowls and chimes.

More Sound Bathing

Join a Women’s Healing Sound Bath, 20 October Huskisson Community Centre, 3-4pm, $30. Bathe in the relaxing vibrations from chimes, singing bowls and more, followed by herbal tea, with practitioner Jen Freeman from Jervis Bay Healing Sounds.

Local Artists on Show

Shoalhaven Art Society‘s annual members exhibition starts on 19 October at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery. The 57th Open Art Exhibition includes junior categories, and a fantastic variety of mediums and subjects. Enter the raffle to win new artworks, vote in the people’s choice award, and support local artists.

School Holiday Art Classes

The Art Hub Studio has a few places left in their school holiday art class program this weekend, including Paint an Animal and Make a Bonsai. Check the program, costs and locations on their website.

Community Engagement

The Huskisson Heritage Association, which advocates for culturally significant sites such as the old church on Hawke Street, is holding its AGM on Monday 14 October. Find out what this organisation is all about on their website.

Vincentia Shopping Village on Burton Street is the location of a community connection event as part of the Yila Healing Trail this Sunday 13October from 12-5pm, including a welcome and smoking ceremony, market stalls and live music.

Plan Ahead

Spirits of Jervis Bay: The festival of all things distilled is coming to Huskisson next month, 23 November from midday, $20+bf. Held in White Sands Park on the shores of Jervis Bay, The Spirits of Jervis Bay will showcase handcrafted spirits from our region’s distilleries including whiskies, vodkas, rums, and gins. Plus great food, live music and a great atmosphere.
