Husky Markets heaving on Sunday

I don’t know if it’s the relief at being able to go out again or the brilliant weather or the proximity to Christmas but the sports ground market is a real hit today. Everyone’s here, and behaving respectfully to each other which various signs around the place remind us to do.

The markets around the Bay & Basin are certainly picking up again, but there doesn’t seem to be the choice of food trucks and coffee vans that used to be here pre-pandemic. I should have eaten before I left home…

For gift shoppers though there’s dozens of options – from handmade timber and resin-dipped chopping boards to baby goods, pet gear and a good handful of plant sellers (natives, succulents, random). There’s also lots of floaty, beachside clothing, a few flea market stalls (hidden treasures!) and some excellent local arts and crafts.

The lemon guy is there today with a line-up snaking back a fair way. I’m tempted because it’s a hot and humid morning and I know how thirst quenching his citrusy sips can be.

But I can’t wait, so I go back to the Wolf and Cub Aussie hand-made baby goods stall, to buy a gift for a new family member then snap up a few smoky chorizos from the wood smoked deli stall and call it a day.
