From brekkie specials to a family roast with a French twist, the specials boards are offering up some tantalising options. Starting with new pasta flavours to savour
Explore some new and distinctive pasta dishes with these three options at Vincentia’s La Vespa Italian Restaurant, in the Burton Street shopping village arcade (next to Coles).
Limoncello This creamy dish with a citrus twist is a standout, combining butter, limoncello, mascarpone and pepper for a rich, tangy sauce. Gorgonzola, lemon juice, cream and Parmigiano add layers of flavour.
Nocina This unusual option starts with a walnut base and chef’s special sauce, plus tender chicken, crispy bacon, fresh asparagus and a topping of Parmigiano.
Meat Lovers For a hearty pasta, the Meat Lovers is perfect. It includes a homemade meatball, Italian sausage and bacon ragu, enhanced by house-made BBQ sauce and topped with Parmigiano.
Salty specials
Salty Joe’s has elevated the “smashed avo” to a whole new flavour dimension this week, combining it with whipped honey and chive fetta, red elk, black sesame seeds and balsamic reduction, on sourdough for $19.
Or add to your happy memory bank with the childhood favourite, pancakes, but with sophisticated grown-up flavours. Joe’s buttermilk pancakes come with house made Wandandian honey ice cream and house made honeycomb drizzled with a little honey, $26.
For a lunch bowl full of goodness, try the Mexi Bowl $23, combining brown rice, chorizo, black bean and corn salsa, cherry tomatoes, onion, potato, spinach and poached egg with a dollop of sour cream. Healthy and filling, but incredibly satisfying too.
Bottomless Margs at the Waterfront Bar
The Waterfront Bar at Husky Pub is hosting a fiesta on 11 August with tacos and bottomless margs, $50. Gather a group and book online, there are gf, veg and vegan options available. The water-side venue is surely one of the best locations along the Husky strip.
Supper in Vincentia
The occasional suppers at Albert N Miso continue, with a lovely feast planned for this Saturday 27 July at the Burton Street shopping village, for $70 + corkage. Book online for three delicious courses including a winter crumble for dessert.
The new owners have a rebrand and refresh in the works, so enjoy their suppers and some warming lunch specials – like toasties, a classic croque monsieur, savoury cauliflower soup or a hot prawn laksa.
Cuppa Joe dark beer
I must admit, I’m a fan of dark ale. I grew up drinking Black Macs, a smooth porter from Nelson, south island of New Zealand.
Cuppa Joe Coffee & Coconut Porter from Jervis bay Brewing co is described as a silky-smooth porter with rich, roasty and chocolatey malt flavours, perfectly balanced with toasted coconut and Brazilian coffee. Could this be the ultimate winter beer for a chilly evening? Crafted by Joe, a dark beer enthusiast, with coconut roasted by 5 Little Pigs and coffee from Jervis Bay Coffee Roasters, a 4 pack is $40.
Classic French Sunday Roast
Sandbar head chef Jason has taken inspiration from nanna, added a little French flavour and topped off with a classic pan gravy to make a sublime Sunday roast. The chicken Maryland seasoned with garlic, lemon and thyme is served with a hasselback potato and bright fresh greens. It’s an elegant meal with a home-cooked feel. Treat yourself.
