Art to See, Buy and Make This Week in Jervis Bay

Enjoy the rich cultural life of the South Coast with exhibitions, art trails, seminars and skills for artists, and a few tempting workshops for anyone – especially chocolate lovers.

Currarong Art Trail

Walk along the streets of the seaside village of Currarong and support local artists on this monthly open studio day, Saturday 1 March from 10am till 2pm. Start at the community art gallery/shop at 23 Walton Way, which is the hub of the local arts community located in the old fire brigade shed. The trail includes painters, fibre artists, glass artists, ceramicists, knitters and more.

Textile Artists Exhibit

South Coast textile, print and mixed media artists, Linda Balding and Carolyn Collins present a new exhibition, Beyond the Print in Textiles & Mixed Media, at Robertson’s The Shac art space, 27 February 23 March 2025, open Thursday to Sunday 10am – 4pm. Both artists share a passion for the natural environment, and the works are also available for purchase online.

Arts Grant Seminar online

South Coast Arts RADO is hosting a 2025 CASP funding information session online, on Thursday 13 March starting at 9.30am. Hear from the experts about how to apply for grants up to $3000. The grant applications open a few days after the seminar, so it’s a perfect opportunity to ask questions about your project. Register to attend this free talk.

Sustainable Art Career Talk In-person

Join South Coast Arts RADO for a social gathering and talk on Building a Sustainable Career as an artist in regional Australia, on Wednesday 26 March from 5.30pm. Reserve your free ticket online now, for the event at Jervis Bay Brewing Co.

Frame-up Job

Learn how to mount and frame your artworks in this hands-on class organised by the Shoalhaven Art Society. Keith Dewell will share his knowledge and experience to help you present your work at its best. For $80/$120, you will learn matt cutting, mounting of drawings and paintings, and DIY economical framing. This is a one-day workshop on 15 March, enrol online, and see the Society’s website for more upcoming workshops.

Make Your Own Chocolate Banksia

Right in time for Easter, take part in a special chocolately event at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery as chocolate experts, Anne Moorhead and Richard Markham, founders of KokoMana, an ethical cocoa and chocolate making company in Fiji,show you how to make make chocolate leaves, shells, banksia cones, and other edible pieces moulded from nature. Reserve your place for $130 including chocolate, for Saturday 5 April at 10am or Thursday 10 April at 1pm.

Turn Kitchen Utensils into Sculpture

Meroogal Women’s Art Prize finalist Kate Stehr will help you turn ordinary kitchen tools into extraordinary objects, at a workshop hosted in the grounds of the historic house in Nowra on Saturday 22 March from 10.30am till 3pm. Bring along a few items from the second drawer, or browse the op shop for interesting items, and the rest is supplied on the day, including lunch from Blak Cede First Nations owned and run cafe. Tickets are $120/$96 available online.
