Artisans Market

If you are not able to commit to one of the wonderful workshops, make sure to visit the Arts Muster Artisans Market, 10-4pm on Sunday 25 August. Huskisson Community Centre will be humming with a wide range of artists and makers presenting their work (including me!).

Come and browse, and meet the artists who are always happy to chat about what, how and why they make. There will also be activity tables where you can drop in any time during the day, work with an artist, and try your hand at all sorts of methods and techniques.

Arts Muster Artisans Market 2023

The Artisans Market is a great opportunity to buy unique, handmade gifts for special occasions and, if you’re an Early Bird type, do some early Christmas shopping.

If you are a local artisan who’d like to have a stall at the Arts Muster Artisans Markets apply online here.

Useful information for visitors

If you are a visitor coming to Jervis Bay for a creative weekend at Arts Muster it’s worth knowing late winter weather in Jervis Bay is usually mild and sunny and accommodation providers typically have a wealth of off-peak special offers.

You can find useful information on the Arts Muster website about accommodation, cafes and restaurants, supermarkets, shops, and more.

Huskisson School Fantastic Felters

One of the locations for Arts Muster workshops is Huskisson Public School. As a gesture of appreciation to the school Samantha Tannous, Arts Muster Creative Producer and one of its tutors, recently worked for 6 weeks with a small group of students to make an artwork marking World Oceans Day (08 June 2024).

Samantha describes the experience and shares photos of the wonderful artwork the students created.

Thank you Huskisson Public School and Principal Lovell for opening your school for community events.

Alongside librarian LeAnn Hansen and grandparent Suzanne, the students and I gathered at lunchtime once a week to make some very special felted creatures – fish, turtles, penguins, sharks, dolphins, stingrays, seaweed and “bubbles”, all displayed on a macrame net with a deep blue ocean (fabric) backing.

The wondrous seaside installation was on display at a special assembly held at the school to commemorate World Oceans Day, then it went on display at a film festival at Husky Pics, the local cinema, for the whole community to enjoy.

The students were excellent felters. They picked up the skills and techniques to turn wool fibres into felt very quickly and they applied great creativity in designing their creatures. It was most enjoyable to get to know the school and its community better.

I look forward to another winter weekend of arts and crafts workshops at Arts Muster 2024.
