There’s plenty to do at the revamped Vincentia shopping village on Burton Street including a great choice of cafes such as Bunya Wholefoods, Albert N Miso, Phoebe’s Kitchen, La Vespa Italian Restaurant, Lemontree Café & Takeaway, and wine tasting bar, Tractorless Vineyard.

We heard a heart-warming story today of a volunteer who donates his payment from the Tri organisers, for marshalling the athletes, to road safety signs for kids. What a wonderful sense of community! Read more about the big weekend in our story.

Your JB Weekend Team will be down at the Health & Lifestyle Expo in the Husky Pub carpark – come and see us to enter our Winter Weekend competition – we are giving away a perfect weekend for two, with a cute cottage in Husky, a whale watching cruise, dinner at Wild Ginger and brunch at Jervis Bay Coffee Co.

CHEERS It’s time to raise a glass of congratulations to the brew-pub that arguably started the ‘entertainment quarter’ trend over in the Husky industrial zone. Jervis Bay Brewing Co is celebrating its 4th birthday this Saturday 24 February with festivities starting from midday and continuing into the evening.

Raffles throughout the day will award amazing prizes from Jervis Bay Wild, Paperbark Camp, Sandbar Restaurant, 5 Little Pigs café, Tara Distillery, Bangalay Luxury Villas, Bud’s Tavern, Husky Star Liquor, Worrigee Star Liquor, and more with funds raised going to support the incredible work of Wildlife Rescue South Coast. There will be face painting for the little ones 2-5pm, lots of great live music and a special door prize for the loudest party shirt.

For Our Foodies

GO MUSHY Learn how to cultivate your own mushrooms with The Funguy (apparently he has more puns like this) Aaron Boyer, who is cruising up the south coast from Canberra teaching Fungal Wizardry for Beginners. After Canberra on Sunday 25 February, he will be in Ulladulla on Tuesday 27 February, Nowra on Wednesday 28 February, Wollongong on Thursday 29 February then onto Sydney and beyond. The workshops include take-home kits. Aaron has been travelling around sharing his love of mushrooms since he drove off from his home town of Perth in 2010.

GO, TIGER Speaking of puns, what do you get when you milk tiger nuts? You can find out for yourself by ordering a latte at Jervis Bay Coffee Co, now frothing up the surprisingly delicious alt-milk daily in Huskisson. There’s lots more news from these guys who have one of the best casual locations in Huskisson, down the walkway from the lolly shop.

Along with your cuppa, sample the delights of Tapas Del Mar’s revamped menu which, from today, has added new gf and vegan options, all created by chef Mama Kim. The best news is they are now serving Korean Fried Chicken for Happy Hour on Wednesdays 5-8pm.

New behind the cocktail bar is mixologist Luke Cox, who is concocting fresh, vibrant beverages (including non-alcoholic) that perfectly complement the Tapas. Ask Luke for his latest special including house-made Jasmine rice milk and spices. You will thank us.

GRAVITY DEFYING If you’ve driven down Berry Street in the Nowra CBD in the past week, you might have noticed a striking new sculpture that’s landed in the forecourt of the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery. Officially opened by Minister for the Arts , the Hon. Tony Burke MP, among others, the Broken Obelisk cuts a striking figure. Read more about it from our Culture writer, Dr Natalie McDonagh.

Community spirit

FLYOVER Work on the flyover at Jervis Bay Road and the Princes Highway took a big step forwards this week. Vincentia Matters committee members Liz Tooley and Ross Popplewell attended a media event at the JB Rd intersection. Liz says, “The role which Vincentia Matters played in the campaign to get the ‘flyover’ built was well acknowledged and we were congratulated and thanked by Chris Minns. Fiona Phillips was also very proud of VM and wanted to have her photo taken with us.”

The active community group is also confident of more funds for JB Road itself, which is badly in need of repairs.

At the event, attendees could see the pegs in the groundmarking where the bridge or flyover pylons will be built.

Plan Ahead

WOMEN’S WEEK NSW Women’s Week runs from Monday 4 March to Sunday 10 March, and the NSW gov site “promises a dynamic series of events, focusing on inclusivity and celebrating the achievements of women across NSW.”

The state program celebrates remarkable women and girls from diverse backgrounds.

Here in the Shoalhaven, you can see a range of wonderful events organised locally.

PSA A reminder that, since December 2023, vaping is banned anywhere that smoking is banned. Vaping in public areas can now result in an on-the-spot fine.
