This boutique is a long-time favourite on the Owen Street strip, for casual and dressy options in summer fabrics like linen and cotton. We love denim brand Foxwood, this season’s shirred cheesecloth from All About Eve, French linen and organic cotton from Elk, and from my homeland, Foil. Babylon has a selection of accessories, shoes and great hats to finish your outfit from day to night.

Babylon also stocks great kidswear for boys and girls, games, gifts – especially gorgeous puzzles for the holiday house – and homewares.

Slow Tempo

There is always something to love at this resort-style retailer on the Husky strip. You will find cool linens and cottons in breezy, flowing styles here at Tempo including brands such as Wyatt Wild, eb&ive, Humidity, Brave & True, and south coast mother/daughter design duo Azure & Indigo who work with traditional artisans in India to incorporate beautiful hand prints and embroidery in their designs. There’s a small selection of quality menswear including some great shirts for new year’s eve.

Slow Tempo’s style extends to perfect slides and sandals and statement earrings.

This is also the perfect place to pick up beautiful body care products, homewares and journals that will help you start the new year with a sense of calm.

Weekends and Beyond the Beach

Weekends is the newest boutique on the main shopping strip, celebrating its first birthday this month, and sister store, Beyond the Beach, is around the corner in Currambene Street. We love the bold prints and cool linen of Little Lies paired with summer slides by Rollie Nation or Mollini sandals. Shop at Weekends for new coastal contemporary brand By Frankie, boho style Joop & Gypsy, a new range of baby clothes from Len & Ko and a gorgeous range of homewares.

Jay on the Bay

This is the best place in the Bay for menswear, for style and comfort. Jay on the Bay has been offering superb bamboo clothing for over a decade, for its silky-softness, sustainable production and other qualities that make it perfect for clothing such as its resistance to wrinkles and anti-bacterial properties.

The menswear range includes Bamboo Dreaming shirts, Industrie, RM Williams, Okanui, and John Lennon shirts by English Laundry.

A treasure trove of hand-made clothing, accessories and homewares awaits inside Ethik – which works with artisans in Nepal, Turkey, Morocco, Bali, Uganda, Kenya, Cambodia and Australia.

The womenswear collection includes cool summer fabrics like linen and cotton – we love the seersucker jackets for a cooler evening – and boho and traditional print designs.

We are sure you will fall in love with the felt products that Ethik has made from Australian and New Zealand wool, such as ornaments, trivets, puppets and toys.

Tilly Island

Tucked inside the Home Co shopping centre (the one with Woolies) is Tilly Island, a gem inside the boxy mall. Give yourself some time to browse and decompress from the wilds of the mall outside.
