The Collective Beat Celebrates South Coast Artisans with marketplace for local art and craft

 In CULTURE, NEW, SHOPPING

I love to send Australiana to family overseas to remind them of home – and to support the many talented makers and artists around who proudly represent our land in all its glory in their hand made, local art and craft.

The Collective Beat in Huskisson, Kiama and Gerringong is the ideal ‘marketplace’ to shop for art, design, food products, and more.

The Huskisson store is my local, and it’s bursting with beautiful things that I want to buy for myself too. I am a massive fan (despite what ‘Nat’s what I reckon’ says about ‘jar sauce’) of the simmer sauces by Maxwell Treats at the Berry Treat Factory. They are packed with flavour – I love the butter chicken and rendang sauces – and after a hard day at the beach, make a quick dinner.

Shoalhaven artist Jess Hutchison is my choice for the gift winging its way to the US this year, with a stunning print of a kookaburra. Local under/overwater photographer Jordan Robbins also sells his mind-boggling, intriguing and award-winning photos here. If you haven’t come across his work yet, get googling!

Gifts galore hand made with skill and flair

There’s also jewellery, ceramics, bath and beauty products, pet stuff, baby stuff, wall hangings, plant pots, all the gorgeous things you expect from a business made up of artists and makers.

It’s worth signing up to their newsletter to find out about special events and workshops that will be on offer in the future.

If you’re a local maker, there’s an online form for expressions of interest to become a part of the marketplace.

The store is dog-friendly and always has a thoughtful bowl of fresh water out front.
