Funeral for Jesus

While sitting in a church one afternoon, Annette Tesoriero looked up at the crucifix and pondered what it might have been like for Mary, the mother of Jesus to not have the opportunity to fully lay her son’s body to rest. Funeral for Jesus is Annette’s creative imagining of a civil funeral service for Jesus of Nazareth, complete with exquisite live music from cellist, Karella Mitchell (Steel City Strings).

Join me, Natalie McDonagh, and Max Dingle for a joyful jaunt through DEATH . LOVE . ART . the major exhibition conceived and curated by Max Dingle on show at Shoalhaven Regional Gallery (until 4PM Saturday 03 February). Experience this expansive, engaging survey exhibition in a novel way. The curator and his trusty-sidekick (me) present a short, live performance revealing hidden dimensions of the works, their makers, subjects and stories.

Spirit, angel, demon or deity? Will she enfold you in a dance to the underworld or will you elude her gaze and run for your life?

Drawing on cross-cultural mythologies this roaming performance by Sarah Enright weaves sound, movement and materials, disappearing and reappearing, inviting encounters throughout the night. Radiant, serene, unsettling in physical form, Angel of Death guides us on a journey from the land of the living to that of the dead. Heed the call and surrender yourself – ascend on a lullaby to the forever sleep.
